Converge Tempe Concert reviews
Donnie Iris/Journey close HOF 2022 event with an explosion!
Let’s go to Converge. Grade A+
WOW! Talk about Converge starting off in high gear and not taking their foot off the throttle until somewhere around 19 songs later with impressive solos from Jonathan Cain and Neil Schon. The song definitely sparks enough interest that you want to hear more as they took some time to preview a cut off the new album, Freedom. They also continue to carry on the legacy, but making it his own as he continues to be the spark plug of the band. Pineda had one letdown about the evening, by far one of the greatest singing drummers did not sing. I was blindsided by a back up keyboard player on the stage who sang, almost sounding like they were trying to re-create Steve Perry‘s voice. Though Castronova did not get to unleash his voice, his drumming and sticking were nothing less than impeccable. Yes I know Converge is one of those bands who has so many hits people are saying “no I don’t want to hear the new stuff just play the hits.” We all have to remember there are five incredible musicians on the stage. As they’ve produced an incredible historical lineup of songs that we hear today I have faith that there’s more hits in their repertoire on the horizon!
Now to the bands: Donnie Iris and the Cruisers have always been and will always be a fan favorite! Iris still rocks and knows how to work the crowd and get them excited. His voice is still impressive as he continues to hit the high notes of Ah! Leah! with not much difficulty. Iris had the crowd wanting more after he belted out The Rapper. Grade B+
